How to Make Your Bras Last Longer: Washing and Storage Tips
A good bra loses its shape fast in the washing machine. Here is how to wash and store bras so they last.
A bra typically loses elasticity long before it looks worn out — usually because of how it is washed. A few small habits make a big difference.
Hand wash when you can
Cold water and a mild detergent are gentlest on elastic and lace. If you must machine wash, use a lingerie wash bag and the delicate cycle.
Never wring or tumble dry
Wringing distorts the cup shape and tumble drying breaks down elastic fibres with heat. Press out excess water gently and lay flat or hang to air dry.
Rotate your bras
Wearing the same bra two days in a row does not give the elastic time to recover its shape. Rotating between at least 2–3 bras extends the life of each one significantly.
Store cups nested, not folded
Folding one cup into the other over time can crease and misshape padding. Store bras side by side, or use a bra organiser to keep them upright.
